The goal of the Peer to Professional project is to develop mechanisms that will financially and structurally support the formal education, licensure and stability of peer support specialists to fill the need for open and future positions in the substance use disorder field. Peers are uniquely positioned to transition to a social worker or certified addiction counselor role due to personal experience with substance use disorders, treatment, and recovery, but often lack the resources to attain higher degrees.
