In this project, Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) will partner with two clinics that provide behavioral health services to children and families in the Great Lakes Bay region. Using a model that has improved the functioning of physical health and dentist offices across the country, the project will enhance performance, safely increase the number of people treated, and expand access to mental health services by systematically introducing “buffers”, or operational improvements for clinic-based workflows. Grant funding for this proposal will support compensation for training participating clinics, behavioral health consultation, electronic medical record enhancements to gather data, evaluation, the creation of a free, online course on the model for statewide dissemination, and staff time to lead the project.
