In 2020, the American Heart Association and 15 partnering organizations launched the It Takes A City Collaborative in Detroit as a community-wide effort to target the key health factors that lead to heart attack, cardiac arrest, and stroke. The collaborative identified two primary goals: 1) to improve knowledge, competence, and resources for family caregivers and 2) pilot a community-wide engagement approach to promote Hands-Only CPR training and test feasibility of non-invasive tools to prevent cardiac arrest. Through this grant, the collaborative will hire a consultant to develop a strategic plan and gather community data to confirm the collaborative goals are in alignment with community needs. The collaborative will host a series of convenings/stakeholder meetings to share data, solicit input from the community, and ultimately develop a training approach and evaluation plan for the Hands-Only CPR training.
