Through this project, Beaumont Health Foundation (Beaumont) and Michigan Medicine will improve pharmacological therapy and mental health support for pregnant women in the antepartum period, during delivery, and upto a year postpartum with the goal of preventing or mitigating the risk of substance use relapse and postpartum mood disorder. Beaumont and Michigan Medicine will create a comprehensive peripartum pain management care pathway for patients with SUD/OUD to address these issues. In contrast to the current medical experience, the project will add anesthesiologists to a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, addiction specialists, obstetricians, and social workers to engage in patient centered medical management. Patients will decide on their preferred pain control interventions through shared decision making during a consultation with the provider team. This plan will be scanned into their electronic medical record for their delivery team to reference.
