The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services aims to increase the recruitment and retention of providers offering medication assisted treatment (MAT) and substance use disorder (SUD) counseling/therapy services in 21 of Michigan’s highest need counties. by developing a program to provide medical education debt repayment to providers that agree to begin, expand, or continue providing MAT and SUD services in those counties. The program will be modeled on the guidelines and requirements of the National Health Service Corps program and will be open to private practice physicians that are otherwise ineligible for the National Health Service Corps program incentives.
