This project will position students to propose and carry out healthy changes in their school food ecosystem by increasing the availability of fresh, local food. Locally Integrated Food Teams (LIFTs) at five UpperPeninsula schools consisting of students, teachers, food service directors, local farmers, and food system educators, will identify current barriers to local food purchasing and propose student-led interventions that increase access to healthy food, and engages students in career and leadership training.
