This project builds off a 2020 Community Health Impact grant where the Michigan Breast Feeding Network (MIBFN) engaged communities in strategies around improving breastfeeding resources for Black women. Based on the targeted feedback from women engaged during the previous project, this continuation will seek breastfeeding solutions in direct response to the needs of Black families within their communities. MIBFN will support the Michigan Milk Collective (MMC) to establish a leadership team and steering sub-committee of Black leaders in breastfeeding and birth justice to advance MMC’s efforts. These efforts include determining membership expectations, reevaluating current policy recommendations, investing in Black-led breastfeeding support groups, and establishing a mentorship program. MMC is housed within the MIBFN, a key ally of MMC’s foundational efforts.
