In the 2021 Community Health Impact program, the Health Fund awarded a planning grant to IshpemingPublic School District (IPSD), to work in collaboration with Partridge Creek Farms (PCF), and Jasperlite Senior Housing to develop a strategic plan, a curriculum framework, and an “how-to” toolkit for shared farm and intergenerational programming in the community. The senior housing center is located on three acres of farmable land which is being leased to Partridge Creek Farms to address food insecurity and healthy food access in Ishpeming. Produce grown here will be used in the senior housing cafeteria, the school, and given away to the community. The partner organizations also engaged with the community by including them on the planning team to determine programming. Phase 2 of this initiative will implement nutritional programming (developed in tandem with the community)for local youth and seniors. The proposed program will also increase access to affordable produce in schools, senior housing facilities and the Ishpeming community.
