This project is an implementation grant following the previous planning grant that uncovered barriers to care related to disparate care within the Saginaw community. This project aims to reduce well documented racial disparities in timely access to behavioral health treatment after utilizing hospital/emergency department by implementing three key activities: 1) integrating Black peers with lived experience in hospital emergency departments for support and connection to substance use disorder treatment, 2) integrating Black peers with lived experience into the Saginaw Community Mental Health intake system, and 3) utilizing existing trusted sources for messaging regarding the importance of seeking mental health and substance use disorder services and reducing stigma to employ methods of reaching the target population.
