The Thumb Community Health Partnership (TCHP) is seeking funding to address workforce shortages, in part, through a long-term youth outreach strategy that promotes early interest in healthcare careers among youth from underserved areas as part of a larger strategy to address workforce issues in the region. The Career Pipeline program is designed to recruit a diverse group of students interested in pursuing a health professions career and includes three pillars: mentorship, teaching, and health and wellness. Working with Central Michigan University undergraduates, medical students, and health professionals, students will explore career options, engage in hands-on clinical simulation experiences, learn how to navigate the post-secondary environment to achieve their goals, and become more observant of their own health and wellness. The Health Careers Pipeline Program will help increase access to health professions education for students whose economic, geographic, or educational disadvantages hinder the pursuit of their aspiration. The project will engage youth and adults who work with youth in the planning and promotion of the program.
