Starr Commonwealth is seeking support to conduct a feasibility study to determine the future of their 350-acre Albion campus. In June 2020 Starr Commonwealth made the decision to discontinue residential services on this campus and began a strategic planning period to determine the best use for the space. In March 2021, this discovery phase was suspended indefinitely due to a request from the federal government’s Administration for Children and Families to use the campus to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis at the southern border by housing unaccompanied minors while working to reunite them with their families or sponsors. This agreement ended in March 2022 and Starr is moving ahead strategically to enable the design, funding, capacity building, and launch of new programming as soon as possible, as the cost of their idled facility is not sustainable. This funding will support Starr contracting with consultants who will help conduct an in-depth analysis and feasibility study of the top potential programming ideas based on mission alignment and financial viability, along with other programming activities, finance modeling, workshops, fundraising efforts, and overall capacity building as they determine the future use of the Albion campus.
