Brilliant Detroit will address the growing mental health crisis among vulnerable children and families in Detroit by piloting a resilience platform that will: 1.) build responsive relationships between children and families; 2.) reduce sources of stress; and 3.) strengthen core life skills. The program will promote resilience in the community among those who may be resistant to more traditional therapeutic approaches through wellness promotion, which refers to services that can target mental health challenges with enough specificity to be effective but with the kind of flexibility and informality that is not available in traditional mental health service offerings, like individual therapy. Working with key partners, families and children will be offered a platform of services that include resilience, wellness promotion, and mental health services. Year one will be dedicated to planning, and the partners will pilot the wellbeing program in three neighborhood hubs in year two. The project involves engagement of community members throughout the design and implementation stages including listening sessions that will help inform and make adjust to the programming.
