Catherine’s Health Center will eliminate barriers that people experiencing homelessness encounter when trying to access care such as transportation, trust in a medical facility, and access to continuous psychiatric services for those suffering from a serious and persistent mental illness. Through this program, individuals experiencing homelessness and those receiving services at Mel Trotter Ministries, a trusted housing agency in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, will have immediate access to needed behavioral health and psychiatric services. Catherine’s and Mel Trotter will work in partnership to establish a telehealth suite within Mel Trotter, connecting virtually with psychiatry providers at Catherine’s. Staff at Mel Trotter and guests who use their services are involved in planning for this project and will provide input into what their needs are related to behavioral health, obstacles to accessing timely and appropriate behavioral health services, and the design of the telehealth stations and process.
