This grant will fund a pilot project to provide 120 families served by food assistance programs in Detroit, Lansing, and Ann Arbor with free Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares from June through October of 2017. Through careful design and assessment of this pilot, The Michigan Environmental Council team will determine if—and under what conditions—giving low-income families no-cost weekly access to a box of fresh fruits and vegetables can serve as an effective tool in addressing hunger and childhood obesity.
