Detroit Public Television (DPTV) is requesting support to engage parents as teachers and role models for their children so they can take an active role in building healthy habits around nutrition, sleep, and physical activity. The PBS Healthy Kids: Preschool Partnership Initiative builds on DPTV’s tested and proven PreSchool U (PSU) parent engagement model which is aimed at alleviating childhood obesity, with the addition of Healthy Kids mini-lessons to reach more caregivers with health information in a less intensive format. This grant will increase DPTV’s capacity and resources for an expanded program that reaches into the homes of families with children that are engaged in media by adding engaging workshops will help parents learn relevant information and techniques for supporting healthy behaviors while also developing relationships with other parents who will become a support network that reinforces lessons learned.
