The Parenting Young Children Check-up (PYCC) program seeks to engage Detroit parents at Wayne Pediatrics and Brilliant Detroit to evaluate, refine, and ultimately scale-up efforts to improve behavioral health among Detroit’s and Michigan’s children. Through a technology-based program, the PYCC will teach parenting skills in a way that is convenient and easily doable for parents to prevent them from going through an often difficult process of finding help for their child’s behavioral health challenge. After completing a screener for children’s behavioral health, parents will go through a brief electronic check-up that provides tailored feedback about their child’s behavioral health, introduces parents to the PYCC, and builds motivation to make parenting changes. Parents enter their phone number to receive tailored text messages to connect parents to the website which contains video-based content to learn positive parenting skills. Parents choose which parenting skills they want to learn and then learn those skills through interactive modules. The initial PYCC pilot was developed with input from Detroit-area parents and physicians that see children and parents will be able to continue to give input throughout the scaling up of the program.
