Milk Like Mine is seeking support to strengthen their internal operations in order to better serve families in the Battle Creek area by strengthening their communications and marketing activities and providing more opportunities for staff leadership development. The communications and marketing activities include a stipend for a marketing/communications intern, from and reflective of the community, who will create and implement a marketing plan through social media, outreach to hospitals, doctors’ offices, and other forms of dissemination. Staff leadership development will include joining the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC), attending the USBC Annual Training, and for one or two staff to attend the “Reviving the Village” 45-hour course which will provide culturally relevant training on the International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) pathway. These activities and trainings will ensure Milk Like Mine continues to support families, improve health outcomes, and address health disparities for the long term. The need for this investment also demonstrates the changing breastfeeding landscape of Battle Creek, where there has been a shift in breastfeeding leadership toward a model that centers equity and justice for and by the BIPOC community.
