Four County Community Foundation will pilot a micro-transit solution for Imlay City to increase food and healthcare access for older adults. A pending USDA grant will cover vehicle purchases and Four County Community Foundation, Lapeer County Community Foundation, and Lapeer United Way have agreed to pay up to $20,000 each over 3 years, for the actual transportation fees for at-risk seniors. Additionally, the Michigan Transportation Connection has a contract with GLTA, funding senior and eligible disabled rider costs at 50%. This request to the Health Fund will cover some transportation costs and a contract with RLS and Associates to conduct an evaluation to gauge future duplication of micro-transit solutions in other towns/cities in rural Lapeer County. This project builds off a 2021 Community Health Impact grant for a collaborative, county-wide non-emergency medical transportation planning process in which they recruited community members to participate in the planning process and conducted broader community surveys to determine need.
