Midland County Cancer Society’s program, Eating Right of your Cancer Fight, will ensure cancer patients receive individualized nutrition education based on their unique cancer journey. By collaborating with MyMichigan Health, they will provide at least one session of oncology medical nutrition therapy tailored to their specific diagnosis via a Registered Clinical Dietitian Nutritionist free of charge when insurance companies will not cover this service. An additional goal of the program is to help eliminate the cost barrier to purchasing healthy food by connecting participants with their local farmers markets by providing two gift certificates to patients who complete program participation surveys, allowing them to shop for the healthy food discussed at their oncology medical nutrition therapy session. The cancer community and current patients will be engaged in the planning process.
