Building on a successful award by the Health Fund in 2020, Michigan State University (MSU) will expand their evidence-based 14-week “Eat My ABCs” curriculum to promote lifelong healthy habits in children. In Phase I, MSU targeted Head Start teachers to provide the healthy eating education, and recruited families who engaged in ill-advised food choices due to stress in their lives, often caused by a lack of income. Parents were coached on making healthy eating behavioral changes at home that supported their young children in establishing lifelong healthy eating habits. In Phase 2, MSU will evolve the program to be a community-led project, being exclusively implemented by community members (Head Start teachers, family engagement specialist to ensure project sustainability.
