This pilot will improve long-term outcomes for children with autism or a related disability who are boarded in emergency departments with a psychiatric crisis. Emergency departments are ill-equipped to manage this population, resulting in prolonged, stressful boarding. This approach combines components of the EmPath unit, comprehensive behavior management and reduction, and long-term support to families including telehealth options for those at a great distance.
