The Michigan State University Flint Center for Health Equity Solutions aims to address the need for disaggregated health outcome for Flint and Genesee County through the creation of a Health Equity Report Card (HERC), in response to the 2021 declaration of racism as a public health crisis in Flint. Using the federally mandated 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment (currently underway) as the initial basis for quantifying health outcome data, the HERC will provide an overview of the state of health disparities in Flint and Genesee County. The process will also use community-engaged research and participatory strategies to plan, implement, and disseminate information on leading indicators and health outcomes in the community. This effort will convene local stakeholders to create a multi-sector HERC task force that will establish a process for analyzing data gathered through the CHNA process, identify chronic and other health conditions, along with social determinants of health, to be included in the report card, and develop methods to disseminate the results. Ultimately, the collaborative will use this information to develop and implement strategies to address the most disparate geographic areas and populations to narrow disparities.
