The purpose of the project is to advance health equity by proactively addressing maternal and infant economic instability. To do this, Michigan State University’s Pediatric Public Health Initiative will work with the University of Michigan Poverty Solutions, GiveDirectly, and with health care providers and maternal/infant partners in the Eastern Upper Peninsula to pilot an unconditional cash transfer program where care providers “prescribe” all expectant mothers a one-time prenatal allowance and all infants (0-1 year) monthly allowances for one year.
