This grant supported the development and evaluation of the Engaged Father Program, a pilot project of Genesee County Healthy Start, the Genesee County Health Department, and the University of Michigan School of Social Work. The Engaged Father program seeks to improve infant health and reduce the risk factors associated with infant mortality by increasing fathers’ (1) participation in Healthy Start home visits; (2) attendance at prenatal and ultrasound appointments, and at the birth and delivery of their baby; and (3) knowledge in domains of infant health, development, and the importance of fathering. The project implemented and evaluated parent education materials; implemented and evaluated the text4dad program; and designed the technical assistance package with extensive outreach conducted statewide through Healthy Start, WIC, and the statewide fatherhood coalition.
